Mr Tham Xin Kai

Tham Xin Kai is Design Director of Hortian Consultancy and Co-founder of Hortherapeutics, a social enterprise that promotes a holistic approach in addressing issues of health and well-being through nature-based design interventions. He graduated with a degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Western Australia in 2013. Xin Kai has an interest in research and design of landscapes that exhibits the therapeutic effects of natural elements. In particular, he has been studying the attributes of various types of oriental gardens that promote the mental wellbeing of people.
His experience in the design and development of therapeutic gardens began during his employment at the National Parks Board, Singapore. He has written, co-written books and articles related to Therapeutic Garden design, including the Design Guidelines for Therapeutic Gardens in Singapore, and has designed several Therapeutic Gardens in public parks and nursing homes. He is currently pursuing a Certificate in Horticultural Therapy at the University of Florida, which is accredited by the American Horticultural Therapy Association (AHTA).
